Lest We Forget

The mission of the Royal Canadian Legion is to support Veterans and their families, promote the tradition of Remembrance, and serve Canada and its communities with dedication.

Remembrance is a deeply held value that unites Canadians, offering a time for reflection, sorrow, connection, and gratitude. It is through this shared experience that we honour those who served and sacrificed.

At the Legion, we are entrusted with preserving this tradition. Each year, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, Canadians pause to remember—just as they have since the end of the First World War, when the guns fell silent and peace was declared.

Our National Poppy and Remembrance Campaign not only honours the fallen but also provides essential support to Veterans, their families, members of the Canadian Armed Forces, and others in need.

Poppy Campaign

Each year, millions of Canadians wear a poppy to pay tribute to our Veterans and to remember those who made sacrifices for our freedoms.

The Poppy is offered freely to everyone who wishes to wear one, but the Legion appreciates any donations to the Poppy Fund. Funds raised during the Poppy Campaign are held in trust to provide direct support to Veterans and their families in our communities.

Local individuals and organizations can support the Poppy Campaign in several ways.

  • Partner with your local Royal Canadian Legion branch to allow volunteers to stand outside your location to fundraise.

  • Request a collection box to support the Poppy Campaign.

  • Purchase a wreath to place at our local cenotaph  on Remembrance Day, Nov. 11.

  • Create a volunteer program for your staff to encourage volunteering with poppy campaign.

  • Educate your staff on remembrance, the history of the poppy and the work of the Royal Canadian Legion.
